    • Welcome!

Congratulations!  If you are a parent expecting a child, have a child under 7, or if you have been asked to serve as a Godparent, please find information below to help you prepare your child for Baptism in the Catholic Church.  Please read the information below to assess the staff member who can best help you.  Kindly read the entire page because it contains essential information.  God bless you and your family!

    • Formation for Infant Baptism

      What is formation?
Formation is the preparation process parents attend prior to scheduling the baptism. Formation happens at home through three free videos and their study guide. These videos go over the theology of the sacrament and give parents an opportunity to dive deeper into what they ask of the Church and the baptismal promises they make. In addition to the at-home formation, parents either attend two zoom gatherings or one on campus to go over the material, answer any questions that may come up during the at-home formation process, and help build community among parishioners who attend the digital or in-person gatherings.

Who needs to attend the preparation process?
Parents who have never gone through the preparation process for the Sacrament of Baptism for an infant (children who are 0-6 years of age) are asked to go through the process before scheduling the sacrament. To register for the preparation process, please click the button below.

Parents who have gone through the preparation process for the Sacrament of Baptism are not required to participate. Parents who feel ready may go to the section titled "Scheduling."

Godparents are not required to attend the preparation process. However, Godparents are highly encouraged to go through the formation and be as prepared as possible. If they wish to participate, they can click the button below.

Who can serve as a Godparent?
Godparents must meet certain requirements in order to fulfill this role. These requirements are:

      • an individual who has been baptized Catholic, has been confirmed in the Catholic Church, and has received the Eucharist
      • is at least sixteen years of age
      • is living a sacramental life (attends Mass weekly, goes to confession regularly)
      • if married, must be married in the Catholic Church (not be in an irregular marriage)
      • if single, not cohabitating
      • is leading a life of faith in harmony with the ministry they are undertaking, and have the intention of undertaking the ministry of a Godparent

      When is formation offered?

In-person gathering on Saturday, August 2 from 9:15 am to 12:30 pm.

      SEPTEMBER
Zoom gatherings on Wednesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 10 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

    • Scheduling the Baptism

What do I need to provide to schedule the baptism?
There are four documents needed for parents to provide before scheduling the baptism:
       1) Parent Registration form- this form is completed by the parent (enclosed below)
       2) Godparent Registration form- this form is completed by the Godparent(s) (enclosed below)
       3) Formation Verification Letter
       4) Copy of child's birth certificate

Who do I send these forms to?
Forms are sent to the Director of Liturgy, Joseph Reina. His contact information is also below.

Who can schedule a baptism at St. Edward?
Parishioners- we would only require the four documents mentioned above.

Non-parishioners- we would require the four documents mentioned above. Additionally, we will also need a letter from their pastor at their home parish granting permission for the sacrament to be celebrated at St. Edward.

All Godparents who are not parishioners of St. Edward will need to provide a letter from their pastor at their home parish stating they are members of the parish.
