Today I want to speak to you concerning the sexual abuse scandal that has shocked and saddened the whole Church. What was hidden in the dark has come to the light. Sadly, the Church allowed the abuse of the innocent to take place at the hands of those charged with the care of their souls and ignored their cries. We the faithful clergy are extremely offended and grieved by what has happened. We weep along with all the faithful laity for the damage and suffering of these victims.
As the Lord's body let us offer up our prayers and sacrifices. Let us fast and pray our rosaries, attend the Holy Hour, and voice our petitions to plead for the restoration and healing of our Church. A wonderful opportunity for spiritual strengthening, the 33 Days to Morning Glory Consecration, began last Sunday August 26 at 7:15 pm. I encourage everyone to prayerfully consider joining the Consecration as this is a powerful way to guard ourselves during this dark time. You may find more information on this group on our website www.saintedward.org.
Beginning on the first Friday of October we will have 24-hours of adoration on a weekly basis to pray for the Church and for those affected.
Be assured that I have already set up precautions to protect our young people who come to us for help. I implore anyone who has experienced or witnessed an abusive act to contact the local authorities. The conference of Catholic Bishops has set up transparency and safety procedures which we will follow.
It is my hope that St. Edward will always be a safe and caring parish where all can come to worship and grow in their faith. Thank you for your continued support.
